Could You Use a Patient Advocate?
Healthcare can become overwhelming quickly. You may be managing your own care, helping an aging parent, or trying to keep track of multiple doctors, medications, appointments, and decisions.
Patient advocacy may be right for you if:
You feel overwhelmed or unsure about what to do next.
You are managing care from multiple doctors or specialists.
You want help preparing for or keeping track of medical appointments.
You or a loved one is facing a new diagnosis, hospitalization, or change in care.
You are helping an aging parent and need another set of eyes and ears.
You want someone knowledgeable in your corner to help keep things organized and moving forward.
You don't have to navigate complex healthcare alone.

Meet Sarah
Healthcare experience. A passion for advocacy. A commitment to helping you feel heard.
I'm Sarah Schaefer, MSN, RN, ANP-BC, founder of Ascent Patient Advocates. After more than 25 years in healthcare, I chose to focus full time on the part of nursing I've always loved most: advocating for patients.
I bring my clinical experience and knowledge of the healthcare system to every client relationship, helping adults, older adults, and families make sense of complex care, stay organized, ask important questions, and feel more confident about what comes next.
As an independent patient advocate, I'm here to listen, understand what matters most to you, and help you navigate the path forward.

Why Independent Advocacy?
Your advocate should work for you.
As an independent patient advocate, I work directly for you—not for a hospital, healthcare system, or insurance company. That means my focus stays on your needs, your questions, and what matters most to you.
I help you see the bigger picture, connect the pieces of your care, and communicate with your healthcare team. Throughout the process, you remain the decision-maker. My role is to help you feel informed, prepared, and supported.
Independent guidance. Personalized support. Your goals at the center.
